Urban Stories
How to tell a story:
A story is an accumulation of details over time.
Each detail should provoke an emotion.
To dramatize a moment you layer on more details in the same direction, or about the same topic.
But an audience will get bored if all they get is details stacked on top of one another, which is why it is important to include surprise.
Surprise can come in many forms -
- Delight
- Shock
- Humor
The best surprises pay off a detail that was set up earlier in the story, which makes them satisfying.
A story resolves when the accumulated details make up a complete picture of something.
